9-Day Big Kenya Safari – Mid-Range

Depart Nairobi after breakfast in your pop-up roof minivan and travel toward the Masai Mara through the Great Rift Valley region. Your guide will choose a suitable route based on available time and recent conditions. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Compared with the previous transfer, this is a shorter drive, leaving more time to enjoy the lakeside surroundings. Arrive at your mid-range lodge or hotel, check in and enjoy lunch before your afternoon excursion.

Take a boat ride on Lake Naivasha to look for hippos and observe waterbirds along the shoreline. Depending on local arrangements, lake conditions and your interests, you may add a guided walk on Crescent Island, where wildlife can sometimes be observed on foot with a local guide. Return to your accommodation for dinner and a relaxing evening beside the lake.

As you approach Amboseli, the landscape opens into dry plains and wetlands that support elephants and other wildlife. Check in at your lodge when you arrive, depending on the day’s timing.

If you arrive early enough and park-entry arrangements permit, enjoy an afternoon game drive. Explore the plains and wetland areas in search of elephants, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes and other wildlife. On clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro may form a dramatic backdrop. If the transfer takes longer than expected, prioritise a relaxed lodge arrival and save the main game drives for the following day.

After breakfast, check out and begin the return journey to Nairobi. Travel through Kenya’s southern countryside, with planned comfort stops and a lunch break depending on your schedule. Your driver-guide will coordinate the journey based on your drop-off location and onward travel arrangements.

Arrive in Nairobi later in the day, depending on road conditions, traffic and the location of your lodge in Tsavo West. If you are connecting to an international flight, allow a generous buffer and avoid a tight connection. An overnight in Nairobi may be preferable if your flight departs early or if delays would cause disruption, bringing your nine-day safari to a comfortable conclusion.
