Experience Uganda's extraordinary primates and landscapes on this 5-Day Uganda Gorilla and Chimpanzee Safari from Entebbe, combining chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park, a guided nature walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and a relaxing visit to Lake Bunyonyi.
Your journey begins with a road transfer from Entebbe towards Kibale, a rainforest destination famous for its chimpanzee population and remarkable primate diversity. On Day 2, explore Bigodi Wetland, where guided walks offer opportunities to observe monkeys, birds, butterflies, and wetland vegetation while learning about local conservation and community initiatives.
Continue to Bwindi for one of Uganda's most memorable wildlife encounters: trekking through dense rainforest to find a habituated mountain gorilla family. With a permit secured in advance, you can observe these remarkable primates in their natural habitat during the officially permitted viewing period. The trek's duration and difficulty depend on the gorillas' location and forest conditions.
After your gorilla experience, travel to Lake Bunyonyi, known for its scenic hills, terraced slopes, and islands. The final day includes a long drive towards Kampala before continuing to Entebbe. This route covers considerable distances, particularly between Kibale and Bwindi and on the final day, so an early start and realistic timing are essential.

Depart Entebbe in the morning in your pop-up roof 4x4 safari vehicle and travel west towards Kibale National Park. The journey takes you through Uganda's countryside, passing villages, cultivated hills, and changing landscapes before reaching the forested region near Fort Portal. Stop for refreshments and lunch along the way, depending on your departure time and preferred arrangements.
Arrive at your lodge near Kibale in the afternoon or evening and settle in before dinner. If time permits, enjoy the forest surroundings or receive a briefing about the following day's chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi Wetland walk. Rest well before the early start. Chimpanzee tracking is planned for Day 2 because the road journey from Entebbe is too long to reliably combine with a tracking session on the first day.
Meals: Lunch and dinner, depending on departure time and accommodation arrangements.
Transport: Pop-up roof 4x4 safari vehicle; approximately 300–350 km, around 5–7 hours by road, excluding stops and traffic.

After an early breakfast, head to the designated tracking centre in Kibale National Park for a briefing before entering the forest with experienced guides and trackers. Follow forest trails in search of wild chimpanzees and observe their behaviour when a group is located. You may also encounter other primates and forest wildlife, although sightings vary according to animal movements and conditions.
Later, visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk through a rich wetland habitat. Look for birds, monkeys, butterflies, and other wildlife while learning about the ecosystem and community conservation initiatives. The walk offers a different perspective from the forest trek, with opportunities to appreciate the area's biodiversity at a gentler pace. Return to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay near Kibale.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Transport: Pop-up roof 4x4 transfers between the lodge, Kibale tracking centre, and Bigodi Wetland. Driving distances depend on the lodge location; chimpanzee tracking and the wetland walk are on foot.

After breakfast, depart Kibale and travel south towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This is a substantial cross-country journey through western and southwestern Uganda, with scenic views of hills, rural communities, and cultivated landscapes along the way. Stop for lunch and refreshments as needed, allowing sufficient time for the journey and any changes in road conditions.
Arrive in the Bwindi region later in the day and check in at accommodation near your assigned gorilla trekking sector. Your lodge team can help confirm the next morning's meeting point, departure time, and equipment requirements. Prepare sturdy hiking boots, rain protection, drinking water, and a small daypack. An early night is recommended before the gorilla trek.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Transport: Pop-up roof 4x4 safari vehicle; approximately 300–350 km, around 6–8 hours by road, depending on the route, stops, and accommodation location.

After an early breakfast, travel to your assigned gorilla trekking headquarters for registration and a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority staff. Join the guided trek through Bwindi's dense rainforest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. Trekking duration and difficulty vary according to the gorillas' location, terrain, weather, and trail conditions. Once the gorillas are located, visitors are normally allowed one hour to observe them at a respectful distance, following the rangers' instructions.
After the trek, travel to Lake Bunyonyi, known for its scenic hills, terraced slopes, and islands scattered across the lake. Depending on the trek's finish time and road conditions, arrive in the afternoon or evening. Settle into your accommodation and enjoy the peaceful surroundings after the physical demands of the forest trek. If time allows, enjoy views over the lake before dinner.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Transport: Pop-up roof 4x4 transfers between the lodge, gorilla trekking headquarters, and Lake Bunyonyi. The drive to the lake may take approximately 2–3 hours or longer, depending on your trekking sector and accommodation location. Gorilla trekking is on foot.

Enjoy an early breakfast at Lake Bunyonyi before beginning the long drive towards central Uganda. If time permits, take a brief look at the lake before departure, but prioritise the road journey. Travel through southwestern Uganda towards Kampala, stopping for refreshments and lunch as necessary. The journey is long, and arrival time will depend on traffic, road conditions, and the number of stops.
If you reach Kampala early enough, you may make a short city stop before continuing to Entebbe. However, this should not be treated as a full Kampala sightseeing experience: the drive from Lake Bunyonyi to Kampala is substantial, and the onward transfer to Entebbe adds more time. Continue to your agreed drop-off point in Entebbe, allowing a generous buffer if you have an international flight. An additional day would be preferable if you want to explore Kampala properly.
Meals: Breakfast; lunch depending on the schedule and package.
Transport: Pop-up roof 4x4 safari vehicle; Lake Bunyonyi to Kampala is approximately 400–450 km and may take 7–9 hours or longer, followed by approximately 40–50 km to Entebbe, depending on traffic. A Kampala stop adds time.
