The 8-Day Wonders of Kenya and Tanzania Safari combines three of East Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations in one cross-border adventure. Starting in Nairobi and ending in Arusha, you explore the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya before continuing into Tanzania’s legendary Serengeti National Park and the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater.
Spend three days in the Masai Mara, where open grasslands provide opportunities to search for lions, elephants, cheetahs, buffaloes and other wildlife. Continue into the Serengeti for three days of game viewing across vast plains and varied habitats. Depending on the season and location of wildlife, you may also encounter large herds of wildebeest and zebras. Your final destination is the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where a descent into the crater offers a chance to see a remarkable concentration of wildlife in a dramatic volcanic landscape.
Travel in a pop-up roof 4x4 in Tanzania and a pop-up roof minivan in Kenya, subject to the final vehicle and border-transfer arrangements. This itinerary crosses an international border and includes substantial driving, so the Kenya–Tanzania transfer needs careful coordination. A direct vehicle crossing should not be assumed: your operator must confirm the permitted border point, vehicle arrangements, immigration procedures and any required vehicle change. The itinerary below allows for this transition while keeping the focus on wildlife and a comfortable mid-range experience.
First-time visitors wanting to experience Kenya and Tanzania in one trip.
Wildlife enthusiasts seeking big cats, elephants, rhinos and the Great Migration ecosystem.
Couples and families looking for a private or customised mid-range safari.
Photographers wanting varied wildlife habitats and dramatic African landscapes.
Travelers who want to experience the Masai Mara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater without planning separate trips.

Depart Nairobi after breakfast in your pop-up roof minivan and travel toward the Masai Mara through the Great Rift Valley region. Enjoy scenic views along the way, with suitable stops for refreshments and photographs. Continue to your mid-range safari lodge or tented camp, arriving around lunchtime or early afternoon depending on traffic, road conditions and accommodation location.
After check-in and lunch, head out for an afternoon game drive if time permits. Explore the reserve’s grasslands in search of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes and predators. Your guide will introduce you to the Mara ecosystem and help you understand the wildlife you encounter. Return to camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Meals: Lunch and dinner, depending on departure time and arrival arrangements.
Transport: Nairobi to Masai Mara, approximately 250–300 km; allow around 5–7 hours depending on traffic, stops and camp location.

Begin with an early-morning game drive when wildlife may be active in the cooler hours. Explore different areas of the reserve with your guide, looking for lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes and other wildlife. Your guide will adjust the route according to recent sightings, weather and your interests, whether you prefer photography, predator behaviour or general wildlife viewing.
Return to camp for lunch and a rest before an afternoon game drive, or arrange a full-day excursion with a packed lunch. The additional time allows you to explore further without rushing back to camp midday. Return in the evening for dinner and relaxation. Optional activities, such as a hot-air balloon safari, may be arranged separately if available and suitable for your budget.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Morning and afternoon game drives within the Masai Mara in your pop-up roof minivan; distance varies according to sightings and route.

Enjoy another early game drive, giving you further opportunities to explore the Masai Mara’s wildlife-rich plains. Your guide can visit different areas from those explored the previous day and continue searching for predators, elephants, giraffes and plains game. If you are interested in wildlife photography, use this time to observe animal behaviour and work with the guide to find suitable viewing positions.
Return to camp for breakfast or lunch according to your selected game-drive schedule, then relax before an afternoon outing. You may choose a final photography-focused drive or arrange an optional cultural experience with local Maasai hosts, subject to availability and respectful local arrangements. Return to camp for dinner and prepare for the international border crossing into Tanzania the following day.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Game drives within the Masai Mara in your pop-up roof minivan; distance depends on wildlife activity and selected routes.

After an early breakfast, depart the Masai Mara for the journey into Tanzania. The cross-border transfer must be arranged through an authorised route and coordinated with immigration formalities, vehicle permissions and your Tanzanian safari operator. A vehicle change may be required at the border, so confirm the exact meeting point and transfer plan in advance. Carry your travel documents and allow time for border procedures.
Continue toward the Serengeti, enjoying the changing landscapes as you enter Tanzania’s northern safari region. This is primarily a transfer day, and the arrival time will depend on border processing, road conditions and the location of your Serengeti camp. If you arrive with enough daylight and park access time, your Tanzanian guide may arrange a short game drive; otherwise, settle in and enjoy dinner at your camp.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner, subject to the transfer arrangements.
Transport: Masai Mara to the Serengeti via an approved border crossing, commonly planned through the Isebania–Sirari route. Allow a full day for border formalities and road travel; exact distance and duration depend on the crossing, camp location and vehicle arrangements.

Set out early with your Tanzanian driver-guide to explore the Serengeti’s expansive plains and wildlife habitats. Search for lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and other species, while keeping watch for cheetahs and leopards. The best areas to explore depend on the location of your camp, current wildlife movements and the time of year.
Return to camp for lunch and a rest before an afternoon game drive, or choose a longer excursion with a packed lunch if practical. The Serengeti’s open landscapes offer excellent opportunities for wildlife observation and photography, but sightings vary naturally. Return to camp in the evening for dinner and time to relax under the African night sky.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Game drives within the Serengeti in your Tanzanian pop-up roof 4x4; distance varies according to wildlife activity and the camp’s location.

Enjoy another day of wildlife viewing in the Serengeti, with an early departure to explore areas suited to the season and location of recent wildlife sightings. Your guide will help you search for predators and grazing herds while explaining the relationships between the Serengeti’s wildlife, grasslands and seasonal water sources. If the Great Migration is a priority, the route should be planned around current herd movements rather than assuming they will be in a particular area.
Depending on your interests, choose a full-day game drive with a packed lunch or return to camp for a midday break before heading out again. This additional day gives you more time to explore and photograph wildlife at a comfortable pace. Return to camp for dinner and prepare for the journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area the following day.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Game drives within the Serengeti in your pop-up roof 4x4; distance depends on sightings and the selected wildlife-viewing areas.

After breakfast, leave the Serengeti and travel toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Depending on your camp’s location, the journey may include game viewing along the way, subject to park rules and the time available. Enjoy the transition from the Serengeti’s open plains to the highland scenery surrounding the Ngorongoro Crater.
Arrive at your lodge in the Ngorongoro area and check in, with lunch arranged according to the day’s schedule. If time and access arrangements permit, enjoy a scenic stop near the crater rim or relax at the lodge overlooking the surrounding highlands. Your guide will brief you on the next day’s crater descent, including departure time and the need to follow park regulations. Dinner and overnight stay in the Ngorongoro area.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Serengeti to the Ngorongoro area, approximately 100–180 km depending on camp and lodge locations; allow around 3–5 hours or longer, including any game viewing and park procedures.

Start early and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive across its grasslands, woodland and wetland habitats. With luck, you may see elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, lions and other wildlife. The crater is also one of the places where visitors may have an opportunity to see the endangered black rhino, although sightings are never guaranteed. Your guide will follow park rules and approved routes during the visit.
After your crater excursion, begin the drive toward Arusha, stopping for lunch as the schedule allows. This is a full day combining wildlife viewing with a road transfer, so the exact departure and arrival times depend on crater access, game-drive duration, traffic and your accommodation arrangements. Arrive in Arusha in the late afternoon or evening, concluding your Kenya and Tanzania safari.
Meals: Breakfast and lunch; dinner is not included unless arranged.
Transport: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha via the crater excursion, approximately 180–200 km overall depending on lodge location and route; allow around 4–6 hours of road travel in addition to the crater game drive.
