The 7-Day Northern Kenya Wildlife Adventure takes you beyond Kenya’s most familiar safari routes to discover the wildlife-rich Laikipia Plateau, the diverse wilderness of Meru National Park and the distinctive landscapes of Samburu National Reserve. Starting in Nairobi, this safari combines private travel in a pop-up roof 4x4 with an air transfer to make the most of your time in northern Kenya.
Your adventure begins at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, where you can enjoy game drives across open grasslands and search for elephants, lions, rhinos and other wildlife. Ol Pejeta is also recognised for its conservation work, including protecting endangered rhinos. You then travel to Meru National Park, a varied wilderness of rivers, woodland and savannah, before continuing to Samburu, where you may encounter Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and other northern Kenya wildlife.
The final day is planned around your flight to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. To keep this route practical, the recommended arrangement is to travel by road between Nairobi and Ol Pejeta, continue to Meru by 4x4, and use a domestic air transfer from the Meru area to Samburu if suitable services are available. Flight schedules, luggage limits and the exact departure airstrip must be confirmed before the itinerary is finalised.

Depart Nairobi after breakfast in your private pop-up roof 4x4 and travel north through Kenya’s central highlands toward the Laikipia Plateau. Enjoy changing countryside views, coffee-growing areas and scenic sections of the route, with stops for refreshments and lunch. Arrive at Ol Pejeta Conservancy and check in at your selected safari lodge or luxury tented camp.
If time permits, head out for an afternoon game drive across the conservancy’s open grasslands and acacia-dotted landscapes. Look for elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes and rhinos, while your guide explains the conservancy’s wildlife protection efforts. Return to your accommodation for dinner and a relaxing evening in the Laikipia wilderness.
Meals: Lunch and dinner, depending on departure time and accommodation arrangements.
Transport: Nairobi to Ol Pejeta, approximately 200–230 km; allow around 4–5.5 hours, depending on traffic, stops and the lodge location.

Start with an early-morning game drive, when wildlife may be active in the cooler hours. Explore different parts of Ol Pejeta in search of rhinos, elephants, lions and other species. The conservancy is particularly notable for its rhino conservation programmes, offering a valuable opportunity to understand the relationship between wildlife tourism and habitat protection.
Return to your lodge for breakfast and time to relax before another game drive later in the day. Depending on current arrangements, availability and your interests, you may be able to visit an approved conservation-related site or learn more about the conservancy’s work. Finish the day with dinner and time to enjoy the quiet surroundings of Laikipia.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Game drives within Ol Pejeta Conservancy in your private 4x4; distance varies with wildlife sightings and planned activities.

After breakfast, leave Ol Pejeta and continue east toward Meru National Park. The journey passes through rural communities and changing landscapes as you travel toward the park’s riverine forests, open plains and woodland. Plan a lunch stop along the way and arrive at your accommodation in or near Meru National Park in the afternoon.
Depending on your arrival time and park-entry arrangements, enjoy a short introductory game drive. Meru’s varied habitats support elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes and several predator species, although sightings depend on wildlife movements and conditions. Return to the lodge for dinner and a briefing with your guide about the next day’s wildlife exploration.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Ol Pejeta to Meru National Park, approximately 180–250 km; allow around 4–6 hours, depending on the route and lodge location. An afternoon game drive depends on arrival time.

Set out early for a game drive through Meru National Park, exploring its mixture of open grassland, riverine vegetation and wooded areas. Your guide will help you search for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes and predators while explaining how wildlife uses the park’s different habitats. The route can be adapted to recent sightings, road conditions and your wildlife interests.
Return to your lodge for lunch and a rest before an afternoon game drive. Alternatively, arrange a longer drive with a packed lunch if permitted and practical. Meru offers a different atmosphere from Kenya’s more heavily visited reserves, with a sense of remoteness and varied scenery. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Game drives within Meru National Park in your private pop-up roof 4x4; driving distance depends on the selected circuits and wildlife activity.

After breakfast, travel from the Meru area toward Samburu National Reserve. The route takes you into Kenya’s drier northern landscapes, where rocky hills, open scrubland and riverine vegetation create a distinctive wildlife habitat. Depending on the exact accommodation and airstrip arrangements, this transfer may be completed by road or combined with a suitable domestic flight.
On arrival, check in at your Samburu lodge and enjoy lunch if the schedule allows. If there is sufficient time before sunset, head out for a short introductory game drive. Your guide will introduce the reserve’s characteristic wildlife, including reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras and gerenuks. Return to the lodge for dinner and a relaxed evening.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner, subject to the transfer schedule.
Transport: Meru to Samburu by road is approximately 150–220 km, often requiring around 4–6 hours depending on the route and conditions. If using air transfer, the exact airstrip, flight schedule and ground transfers must be confirmed.

Begin with an early game drive through Samburu National Reserve, exploring areas around the Ewaso Ng’iro River and the surrounding dry-country habitat. Search for Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and Somali ostrich, alongside elephants and other wildlife. With luck, you may also encounter lions or leopards. Your guide will explain how these animals have adapted to northern Kenya’s drier conditions.
Return to the lodge for breakfast or lunch according to the day’s schedule, followed by time to relax before an afternoon game drive. If you are interested in local culture, ask about a respectful community visit arranged with Samburu hosts and with their consent. Enjoy your final evening in northern Kenya with dinner at the lodge and time to reflect on the safari.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Morning and afternoon game drives in Samburu National Reserve using your private 4x4; distance varies according to sightings and route.

Enjoy breakfast at your lodge, depending on your flight departure time. Transfer to the designated airstrip for your domestic flight to Nairobi. Bush flights offer a convenient way to return from northern Kenya without spending most of the day on the road, although flight schedules, baggage allowances and operating conditions must be confirmed in advance.
On arrival in Nairobi, connect with your onward arrangements at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). If you are departing internationally on the same day, allow a generous connection buffer between the domestic flight and your international check-in. If flight timings do not provide a comfortable margin, an overnight in Nairobi is the safer option.
Meals: Breakfast; other meals depend on flight timing and onward arrangements.
Transport: Lodge to Samburu-area airstrip by 4x4, followed by a domestic flight to Nairobi. Flight duration and arrival airport depend on the confirmed service; allow additional time for the transfer from the arrival airport to JKIA if the flight lands elsewhere.
